All management and supervisory employees, from the executive office to the front line, must understand and effectively implement policies and procedures that are consistent with employment and labor laws and best practices. Failure to do so can lead to substantial liability for personnel-related claims. Management must not only comply with relevant labor and employment laws, but also learn to recognize and adequately respond to potential claims. Many times, appropriate supervisor training also provides for a consistent, and therefore more efficient, management direction.

Often employment-related claims arise when a manager fails to recognize or effectively address an employment or labor issue. Without appropriate training, first-line supervisors may inadvertently violate the law, create a scenario that makes a legal claim difficult to defend or simply fail to direct a situation to the appropriate company official to handle.
